Forget the corny name- this is Willy Wonka heaven!
Forget the corny name- this is Willy Wonka heaven!
Its name might not entirely be accurate, but The Biggest Lollie Shop in the World is certainly big.
And there are a lot of lollies. A freakin’ lot of lollies.
Ignore the kitschy name and the really weird looking building and venture inside to a place which looks like something out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory- without the chocolate rivers, Oompah Loompahs and Johnny Depp!
If there’s a lolly you love, this place has it. In bulk and cheap. And what I like best about `The Biggest’ is that the lollies taste just like they should, not like the smaller, less tasty versions of the original you often get when you buy cheap sweets.
Although there is a `reject table’ and if you don’t mind your lollies being a little faded you can grab 750g of snakes or 1kg of teeth or raspberries for just $2.95!
Top of my list when I’m making up party bags are the things I remember most from my childhood. Doesn’t matter if the kids like them or not đŸ™‚
- Witchetty grubs – $2.95/350g
- Milk bottles $5.95/1kg
- Red skins $2.95/200g
- Buddies $6.95/850g (One for the lolly bag, two for me!)
If I do let the kids have their way, then it’s:
- Sherbert bombs $9.95/1kg
- Mixed sours $6.95/900g
- Gummi worms ($6.95/900g)
You can easily get enough goodies if the occasion is colour-themed, and it’s the place to head to if you’re looking for that hard to find treat.
Many of the items come in small and large packages, so you don’t have to buy way more than you need.
But if its bulk you’re after, don’t go past the coloured lollipops at $8.95 for 143 or 96 Chuppa Chups for $19.95.
There’s an Allen’s party mix- 1kg for $6.95, cute little coloured twisty pops- 20 for $4.95 and your classic bananas, just $2.50 for 250g.
There’s also nuts, savoury snacks and enough chocolate eggs to keep the Easter Bunny happy.
The Biggest also has every possible thing you need for the party, and plenty of things you didn’t even realize you need;
- Paper plates
- Cups
- Lolly bags
- Bunting
- Balloons
- Serviettes
- Serving platters
- Party favours
- Table cloths
- Piñatas
- Cake decorations
- Streamers
- Candles
… and the range is massive. Stars, stripes, spots, patterns, princesses, pirates, pictures and plain.
Just when you decide on a theme (always a version of blue or super heroes in my all-boy household) something else catches your eye and you have to start from scratch.
On my latest visit I overheard a girl on the phone – “Mum, it’s FULL of lollies. I’m going to die.”
Leave plenty of time and bring someone to help carry your bags, and you might just get out alive.
