How To Shop Trend Without A Big Spend
All it took was a penchant for ‘trend without spend’ shopping and a desire for a creative outlet and bam! The Bargain Hunter was born.
With a forever growing account on Instagram, the founder of The Bargain Hunter, Jasmine juggles her time as a lawyer by day and sale slayer by night. Her Instagram feed is full of her favourite bargain pieces and where to find them.
I chatted with Jasmine to discover some of her most memorable bargain-hunting experiences.
Why did you start The Bargain Hunter?
Honestly, I started the account as a break from the stress of work and I can’t believe how quickly it’s grown. The account is now my creative outlet that I don’t get through my job. I have always had a passion for shopping and I always seem to know where to find the best bargains so I thought, why not spread the love and share it with others online?
What are some of your best tips for discount shopping?
Look, look, look. Don’t settle for the first thing you see – remember you can always put something on hold and come back to it. I like to explore, scout my options and then come back to the item that ticks all the boxes. The more you look, the more you have to compare to and you’ll be better equipped when making your decisions on what to buy.
What are some of your most memorable bargains?
I found this amazing soft leather biker jacket from Wittner Shoes. It was right at the end of their season sale and was hanging on their lone rack of leatherwear amongst all their shoes. It was originally $350 but I paid only $100 and throw it over everything. A leather biker jacket is a must-have staple in my books.
I also bought a ring from the Sass & Bide outlet on Bridge Road, Richmond. It’s silver and really hard to explain but the design is so different and it gets lots of compliments. I wear it with everything and only paid $30 dollars for it.
Where are some of your favourite places to shop?
I’m loving Sheike at the moment, which is a Sydney based label that has just moved to Melbourne. Their styles are really different but on trend and seem to be cut well for my shape. Zara, Witchery and Sass & Bide never fail to impress me (especially when they’re on sale!).
For abroad: H&M and Sephora for cosmetics. Unfortunately, Australian women pay up to 200% more for cosmetics than women in other countries so I always try my best to hunt for the best online cosmetic bargains that ship to Australia.
How would you describe your style?
I tend to go for things that catch my eye and stand out a little more than other pieces. I try to keep my wardrobe classic but fashion forward. I like looking fresh and clean cut yet edgy.
What are your fashion staples?
My black Sportsgirl jumpsuit – I bought it on sale and I have certainly got my money’s worth. It does the job for so many occasions and you can style it up or down depending on shoes, accessories or headwear. I’ve worn it to a hen’s day with wedges and a fedora hat, on a winery tour with espadrilles and statement jewellery, at brunch with woven sandals and a chunky scarf and on a Sunday, shopping with havianas and my leather cap. I also love my ripped boyfriend jeans. Must have staple!
What do you love most about bargain hunting?
Saving money so I can buy more clothes!
